The HV-TMC5160 Pro V2 driver was created based on customer requirements. Mellow designed it to support a high voltage of 48V, but using high voltage carries a greater risk. If you don't have technical experience, we don't recommend using 48V. Most customers have been satisfied with 24V, which is safer. However, using a higher voltage allows for larger motors to be used, which can greatly improve the speed of the 3D printer. When choosing the working voltage, prioritize safety as the most important factor.
Mellow have upgraded the supporting small module by adding a 12V power supply chip to supply 12V to the VSA of the 5160 chip. We are the first to use a 12V power supply for the 3D printer 5160 driver. This decision was based on the TMC5160 user manual, which recommends providing a 12V power supply to the VSA.
Mellow have also added a 470uf bulk capacitor. Mellow chose this value because according to the TMC's driver manual, using a 100uf capacitor per 1A of current is the best solution.
Again, using a higher voltage allows for the use of larger motors, which can significantly improve the speed of the 3D printer. When selecting the working voltage, prioritize safety as the most important factor.
